Asian AeroSpace 2006
Overrated, hot, crowded, is all that needs to be said about the Asian AeroSpace (AA) 2006. When I heard that this will be the LAST AA to be held in Singapore, my first reaction was - its gonna be a darn good show! With the lecturers in school psycho-ing us about the planes that will be there and all, its seems that there is no way we are gonna miss it. On top of that, we only need to pay half the price of the tickets initially (catch is that we have to attend a senimar at the ITE East Collage), and later to be given it FOC, no one in its right sane of mind will pass this opportunity up!
So the day started off with me waking up tardily, reaching BB to meet up with Alim and Zun Kai (ZK) half an hour late. Muching a kit-kat for breakfast, we made our way to Tana Merah MRT to meet up with Caroline, a.k.a 20cents. Surprising, she spent $10 on a cab fare just to reach the ITE collage on time.
ITE collage, is much nicer than NP in every aspect. From carpeted floors, to escalators, air-conditioned corridors and automated taps, I wonder what NP does with all the wealth that it has. Other than paying off ultitliy bills and building an eco-pond (which looks like an ideal breeding ground for mosquitos), where does the rest goes? I wonder.
So we arrived at the collage 20min late. Instead of hurrying us into the LT, Lee Yong Him gave us the tickets and told us to leave for the AA discreetly! Thus we did, got 20 cents out of the LT and we flagged a cab to the AA site. Journey took about 15 min odd and slightly before 10, we are queuing up to gain entry to the site!
20 cents case 1:
Alim and myself were infront, Zk & 20 cents were behind us. We were all walking on the pavement towards the entry area. The folks infront of alim carelessly dropped a 20 cent coin on the ground. In order to get 20 cents attention, i delibrately shouted,'look there is 20 cents on the ground!' To my utmost surprise, 20 cents stopped, stepped aside, allowed the others to walk pass before picking up the 20 cent coin. According to ZK, she thought it was Alim's and wanted to return to him. How sweet.
As we were approaching the gate, there were these girls giving out programme sheets to the public. The one that handled Alim his was gorgeous! Not bad for a start. After another 10-15 min odd of queuing and secruity checks, we were fianlly in!
Being within the site half an hour after it has open, I must say that the crowd size that has already gathered was humongous.
The first plane that greeted us is shown above. No idea what its called though, they allow you to take a seat in the cockpit and snap photos.
From afar, the JSF is parked there, awaiting my undivided attention. Beside it, its the first of its kind vertical take-off propulsion system. But on a closer look, the plane and perhaps even the system was nothing but a mock up. What a disappointment!

Beside it, its Singapore purchased Aparche! Now that got
to be the real thing.
And guess who decided to come grace this occasion? Yup, its S.R Nathan, coming to see the purchased product and perhaps learn more about the aviation industry?
ZK wanted to have his picture taken with the president so badly that he ran together with me round the JSF to get the perfect shot. And he did.
Next stop, was the exhibition Hall A. In it were numerous aviation company with their products and services. Airbus, Boeing, GE Aviation, HoneyWell and Pratt & Whittely are just to name a few of the big boys that were there.

And the list goes on. Alim managed to had a little chat with TCB, his temp supervisor while he was at GE, while Eric will only be on duty tomorrow. Darn.
From my opinion, the airshow was horrible, not worth mentioning. Food there was expensive, thus only had a sandwich which cost $4.
Now on to the static aircraft display. The usuals were there, F-18, 16, 15 etc.

The big-boys are parked away some where else. So we queued for another 20min odd just to take a bus that will shuttle us to the site. Than it hit us. We couldn't fing the A380. The best commerical liner that they can muster up was a typical 747. After waiting for a reasonable amount of time under the mercliess, scorching sun, we called it quits and left the big-boys site. Of course not without a few shots of the other big-boys.

The best plane award of the day has to go to this one below. Man it looks cool! Easily mistaken for a concord, its actually a US bomber!

Check out the exhaust!

With that, we left the big-boys site and return to the static aircraft display. By this time, 20 cents is complaining about the weather, how the tan hurts her skin, how tired she was etc. And since there wasn't really much left to see, we decided to call it a day. But, before we left, ZK and I managed to snap a few quick shots of the private jets.

And it was home sweet home for Zk and myself, town for Alim and pedicure for 20 cent.
